About Us
Nestled in the oldest German Catholic community west of the Mississippi, you will find a pillar of the city of Westphalia, the Westphalia Inn. Built in 1908, the Westphalia Inn has seen many iterations throughout the generations. The original building burned to the ground in a fire, but nonetheless, was rebuilt in 1930 to be “fire-proof”. Boasting concrete walls and a massive town cistern, a new inn was constructed adjacent to the original. This is where the current building that the town has come to know and love still stands. Regardless of the exchange of ownership throughout the years, one thing has never altered- the lasting memories. Whether it was a wedding rehearsal, family-style dinners, live music, or sipping wine, the Westphalia Inn is a town tradition, one that the current owners hope to honor in the community. The newest owners, Dr. Sam and Leslie Barnhart, had their wedding rehearsal dinner at the Inn and so are nostalgically excited to reopen to the public in a similar fashion to some of the older versions of the Inn.
The Inn has been completely re-modeled into a more open concept on the main floor that holds a gourmet coffee and pastry shop with a serendipitous twist. The main floor kitchen will also be opening as more staff come aboard to serve the traditional family-style home cooked Westphalia Inn meal that we have all come to know and love. Evening dinner events are also in the works as professional chefs will have the opportunity to provide “all-inclusive style” date nights for reservations only. The dining room will also be available to rent for events, including showers, rehearsal dinners, birthday celebrations…the opportunities are endless!
The second floor of the Westphalia Inn will include four boutique-style hotel rooms, complete with the original bathroom footprint. The hotel rooms are crafted with a twist of modern and vintage- the perfect mix of the old and new. The second story also boasts accesses to the front balcony and a commons area designed specifically for bridal parties to prepare for the big day. Hotel rooms for out-of-town wedding guests, a coffee shop on the main level, a rental space for the Rehearsal dinner, and a built in prep area make the Westphalia Inn THE perfect spot to spend the weekend with your wedding party. Phase two of the remodel includes three more suites on the second floor.
The entire team at the Inn is excited to bring the Westphalia Inn back to life, and we look forward to seeing you all there!
